Disaster Risk Reduction and Resilient Urban Development Management

Introduction:

This five-day course is designed for senior managers who are responsible for developing and implementing disaster risk reduction (DRR) and resilient urban development management (UDM) policies and programs. The course will provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of the key concepts, frameworks, and tools for DRR and UDM, as well as the leadership and governance skills needed to effectively manage these complex challenges.

  • To provide senior managers with a comprehensive understanding of disaster risk reduction (DRR) and resilient urban development management (RUDM).
  • To equip senior managers with the knowledge and skills to develop and implement effective DRR and RUDM strategies and policies.

This course is designed for senior executives, managers, and directors who are responsible for or involved in setting their organization’s strategic direction and goals. The course suits participants from various sectors and industries who want to enhance their knowledge and skills in corporate responsibility and sustainability. It suits executives from any industry, function, or region interested in or responsible for developing, implementing, or overseeing strategic sustainability and corporate governance initiatives in their organization.

Day Two:

  • DRR and RUDM governance
  • Cross-sectoral coordination and collaboration
  • Financing for DRR and RUDM
  • Mainstreaming DRR and RUDM into development

Day Three:

  • Case studies in DRR and RUDM
  • DRR and RUDM in a changing climate
  • Building disaster resilience in vulnerable communities
  • The role of the private sector in DRR and RUDM

Day Four:

  • DRR and RUDM planning and programming
  • DRR and RUDM monitoring and evaluation
  • Communicating DRR and RUDM.
  • Advocacy for DRR and RUDM

Day Five:

  • Leadership and management for disaster risk reduction and resilient urban development.
  • Stakeholder engagement.
  • Course review and action planning.

Each day would include a mix of lectures, group discussions, case studies, and hands-on exercises. The course would be designed to be interactive and engaging, and to provide participants with the knowledge and skills they need to lead and manage disaster risk reduction and resilient urban development initiatives in their own cities.
